Steps to Change Your Tires

To replace a tire on your Buick Encore or GMC Sierra, you’ll need the right tools available from the Dan Cava's GMC parts center. Gather your spare (or new tires), a jack, wheel wedges, a lug wrench, and your owner’s manual. Learning how to change a tire means following these simple steps:

  1. Move to a safe place and turn on your hazard lights if possible.
  2. Apply the parking brake and wheel wedges (if you have them) under the other tires.
  3. Remove the wheel cover or hubcaps, and loosen the lug nuts.
  4. Use your jack to raise your vehicle and remove the lug nuts from your replacement tire.
  5. Remove the old tire and mount the new or spare tire.
  6. Tighten your lug nuts, then carefully lower your vehicle back to the ground.

How Often to Change Car Tires?

Do you know how often to change tires? If you rotate your tires regularly, you should be able to get the total mileage promised, but you should still check your tire pressure and tread wear periodically. If the treadwear is too significant, you’ll need new tires. You can order them online or at our parts center. When you get your oil changed, be sure also to schedule a tire rotation.

How to Put Air in Your Tires

If your TPMS comes on during your Morgantown drives and you need to add air to your tires, here’s how to do it:

  • Park your vehicle close to the air dispenser.
  • Remove the cap on the tire valve of the tire.
  • Check the air pressure in the tire by using your tire gauge because tires can heat up as you drive, causing the air inside to expand.
  • Use the air hose to add small amounts of air in short bursts while checking the PSI on the gauge each time.
  • Keep checking the tire gauge until you hit the right PSI level.
